Having Fun with the TKers

On Thursday, April 1st, we got together with Mrs. Snyders' TK class to do some fun Easter projects. Each 4th grader was paired up with a TK student. Together they read Easter stories, decorated cupcakes to look like Easter baskets, and made a bunny art project with their handprints. The kids had a lot of fun!!!

Customary Olympics

We went to Mr. Childress' classroom on Tuesday, March 16, to participate in Customary Olympics (we did Metric Olympics last year in 3rd grade). Before we went to his classroom, students had to estimate what "score" (measurement) they thought they would get in each event. We then went into Mr. Childress' classroom and had his 7th grade students help us at 5 different stations where the students actually participated in the following events: Paper Straw Javelin (in.), Shoe Weight (oz.), Standing Broad Jump (in.), Bean Bag Toss (in.), and Left-handed Sponge Squeeze (fluid oz.). The students' scores for each event were the differences between their estimates and their actual measurements. The student with the lowest score was the winner!

Winners of each event were:
Standing Broad Jump - Mia with a score of 0 inches
Shoe Weight - Noah & Carter both with a score of 0 oz.
Paper Straw Javelin - Hunter with a score of 7 inches
Left-handed Sponge Squeeze - Kiana & Noah both with a score of 0 fluid oz.
Bean Bag Toss - Noah with a score of 0 inches

Thank you to Mr. Childress and his students for helping us with this fun event! As I've always told my kids... Math is FUN!!!
